On his return to town, Lang rescues the sheriff's daughter, Alice Thornton, from Hemp's gang and defeats their leader, L. W. Bransom, in a fistfight. He then clears himself of the murder charge and wins Alice.

Snub Pollard (sans moustache) and Hughie Mack are tenants sharing a bed in a small hotel. They wake up at 6am and prepare breakfast with two eggs which are taken out of Snub's jacket pocket and put into a coffee perculator. The landlady (Vera White) storms up the stairs when she smells the coffee being made and demands that the janitor (Earl Mohan) break down the tenants' door with a pick-axe.

1860 ushers in the era of iron ships, Richard Sibley, a builder of wooden ships, stubbornly resists the change, which leads him to forbid the marriage of his daughter Rose to John Rhead, a proponent of the new method. This injustice outrages John's sister Gertrude so much that she breaks off her engagement to Sibley's son Sam. Meanwhile, John and Rose elope.

A husband is addicted to the habit of going duck-hunting occasionally. Wifey suspects that his object is chasing chickens - those that walk with two feet - and so starts in pursuit. When hubby's pals get a ducking in the water, they are forced to go to a neighboring farmhouse where the farmer's daughters dress them up in feminine clothing until their own is dried. And the young bride frowns and pouts and stirs up some trouble before she finds out that the girls have a distinct place in the plot.

After years living in the province, the well-respected lawyer Poul Lindorph returns to the capital. While he is expected to take up the post of Director of Public Prosecutions, his wife Maria is far less enthusiastic about returning to the city. She fears bumping into the editor Asp, with whom she shares a secret: Several years ago, she became Asp’s mistress in order to save Poul and herself from financial ruin.
