بعد الهروب من حادث قطار كارثي، يدرك إيثان أن الكيان مختبئ على متن غواصة روسية قديمة، لكن عدوًا من ماضيه يدعى غابرييل يلاحقه أيضًا.

تدور احداث الفيلم حول كوب (ليوناردو دي كابريو) هو عميل من طراز خاص جدًا ومستوى رفيع للغاية، في الواقع هو متسلل أحلام! يقوم بتجنيده رجل أعمال فاحش الثراء يدعى (سايتو) كي يقوم بالتسلل إلى عقل أحد منافسيه يدعى (روبرت فيشر) بمساعدة جهاز خاص، بزرع فكرة داخل عقل الرجل تبدو وكأنها تأتي من داخله هو نفسه، وليست من الخارج. الفكرة هي أن يفكك الرجل شركات أبيه التي سيورثها عنه.

يعود العميل إيثان هانت لاستخدام قدراته وخبرته لحل المزيد من الجرائم العالمية، حيث يسعى رفقة زملاؤه لتعقب سلاح مميت قبل أن يقع في الأيدي المظلمة.

(لو شيفر) مموّل لشبكات إرهابية دولية، يشارك في لعبة مقامرة بـ(مونتجرو)، حيث لا بد له من استرجاع أموال الشبكات الإرهابية التي قد فقدها، ليبقى آمنًا من السوق الإرهابي، وهنا تقوم الزعيمة (إم) بإرسال العميل (جيمس بوند) بصحبة (فيسبر ليند) لحضور لعبة المقامرة ومنع (لو شيفر) من الفوز.

في إطار مشوق ومثير، يستقبل (جيمس بوند) رسالة غامضة ومشفرة لها علاقة بماضيه، والتي يذهب على إثرها ليحاول اكتشاف أسرار منظمة شريرة تتوارى عن الأنظار، بينما يحارب رئيسه (إم) القوى السياسية ليُبقِي على وجود (مكتب الخدمة السرية)، خلال مهمته يواجه (بوند) كل الطبقات الخادعة الواحدة تلو الأخرى ليكشف الحقيقة المروعة عن (الشبح).

تواجه ناتاشا رومانوف ، المعروفة أيضًا باسم الأرملة السوداء ، الأجزاء المظلمة من دفتر الأستاذ الخاص بها عندما تنشأ مؤامرة خطيرة مرتبطة بماضيها. تلاحقها قوة لن تتوقف عند أي شيء لإسقاطها ، يجب أن تتعامل ناتاشا مع تاريخها كجاسوسة والعلاقات المحطمة التي خلفتها في أعقابها قبل فترة طويلة من أن تصبح منتقمًا.

بعد التخطيط لتنفيذ إحدى المهام، يرسل (جيم فيليبس) مع زوجته (كلير) وشريكه (إيثان هانت) إلى مدينة (براغ)، وتفشل المهمة ولا ينجو سوى (إيثان هانت)، ويبدأ مدير الوكالة بالشك في (إيثان) بأنه السبب الرئيسي لفشل هذه المهمة، فيحاول إثبات براءته بمختلف الطرق والأساليب الممكنة واكتشاف المتورط الحقيقي.

بعد اختفائه لفترة طويلة، يعود البطل الرياضي الذي بات عميلًا ﻹحدى الجهات الحكومية، والمدعو إكساندر كيدج من منفاه الاختياري، وعليه اﻵن أن يواجه زيانج وفريقه الذين يملكون سلاحًا فائق الخطورة يدعى (صندوق بندورا)، و يكون عند مفترق طرق في مؤامرة كبرى تشترك فيها عدة حكومات.

يحاول العميل السري 007 (جيمس بوند) منع زعيم منظمة إجرامية غامضة يُدعى (دومينيك جرين) من السيطرة على منطقة في (بوليفيا)، تعتبر من أهم موارد المياه الطبيعية في العالم، وأثناء مطاردة (بوند) تنكشف له علاقة (جرين) بقتل (فيسبر)؛ الفتاة التى أحبها (بوند)، فيسعى للإنتقام من أجل حبيبته.
