تدور احداث الفيلم بعد تضحية الأب الأسطوري بحياته لضمان انتصار البشرية ضد كايجو المتوحش. نشهد ابنه جيك بينتيكوست قد تخلى عن تدريبه منذ ذلك الحين وانخرط بعالم الجريمة. لكن عند ظهور تهديد، يوشك على تدمير مدننا وإخضاع العالم بأسره على ركبتيه، تأتي فرصة جيك الأخيرة للارتقاء إلى إرث والده بمساعدة شقيقته المنعزلة ماكو موري.

تدور احداث فيلم حول في المستقبل حيث يعيش المجتمع في وضعٍ قاسٍ ومريرٍ. ينقسم هذا المجتمع إلي خمس جماعات، كلٍ منها تتميز بخصيلةٍ معينةٍ وعلي المراهقين أن يقرروا إذا كانوا سيبقون داخل جماعتهم أم سينضمون لجماعةٍ أخري لبقية حياتهم. تجد (تريس بريور) نفسها وأفراد جماعتها في خضم عمليةٍ تنافسيةٍ قاسيةٍ، حيث سيمرون بتدريباتٍ بدنيةٍ ونفسيةٍ مضنيةٍ. ولكن لديها سرٌ أخفته عن الجميع وهو أنها مختلفه تمامًا عن بقية أفراد الخمس جماعات ،وأنه لا يناسبها أي من الخمس جماعات ولا تستطيع التكيف فيها. ولكن تأتي الكارثة بأنها إذا علم أحد هذا السر فهذا يعني الموت الحتمي لها وعليها الآن إنقاذ حياتها المهددة وحياة من تحبهم.

هناك عوالم أخرى غير هذه صبي تطارده رؤى عالم مواز يساعد الوصي المحبط في منع تدمير رابطة الأكوان المعروفة باسم البرج المظلم.

يبدأ الفيلم بعبارة "أنه عندما ترفرف فراشة بجناحيها في مكان ما، فهي تحدث ريحا تؤدي توابعه إلى هبوب إعصار في مكان آخر بعيد"، (إيفان ) شاب كان يعانى فى طفولته من مشكلة فى الذاكرة، وهى أن بعض الأحداث لا يستطيع تذكرها، حتى وهو تحت تأثير التنويم الإيحائي، وعندما يكبر يكتشف قدرته على تذكر هذه الأحداث بكل دقة، بل يستطيع التعديل فيها، ويبدأ التعديل، فعلا، رغبة منه فى الوصول إلى قلب حبيبته ( كايلي )، وبالفعل يحصل على ذلك، ولكن لاتسير الأمور كما يريد، فيعود لنقطة أخرى من الماضي، كمحاولة للإصلاح، ولكن الأحداث تتمادى في السوء.

يتلقى فيجيتا دعوة من الساياجين الناجين للانضمام إليهم كملك على كوكبهم الجديد. يكتشف غوكو وأصدقاؤه أن الساياجين الأسطوري برولي هو جزء من هذا المجتمع، ويواجهون قوته الهائلة في معركة حاسمة.
