In the middle of the mountain wilderness of the Alps, a glowing meteorite strikes a glacier and brings a Neanderthal boy frozen in ice back to life. This boy, Bataa, meets Sophie, a girl who has run away from a vacation cabin in the mountains. At first, the two seem separated by language and time, but they quickly discover they have things in common: Sophie has lost her mother and cannot find her place in her new blended family, and Bataa also feels abandoned and longs for his family.

After their circus goes bankrupt, old clown Pipo, trick rider Cora, and little Silvio are left penniless. They can't even afford to feed the animals they have left. Reporter Conny Meister immediately senses a touching story. Dairy owner Runkelmann, on the other hand, wants to take advantage of the circus's plight and buy up the land for a factory. However, he didn't count on the commitment of the neighborhood children.

A not-so-clever guy called Bertie with an Opel Manta (a low-budget European sports coupé from the '80s) gets competition in a street race from a guy with a fast Mercedes, and another slick guy with a Ferrari tries to get his hands on Bertie's girlfriend.

The greengrocer Ferdinand Strubel wants his daughter Marianne to marry the son of the brewery owner Baron von Schnackenberg. Since Strubel is an impossibly cheap bastard, the marriage is to take place on 20 May, which, coincidentally, is the same day the city is having a grand festival for him to celebrate his company's being in business for 100 years. Marianne, however, has fallen in love with Leopold, a gym teacher; and when he reads an article in the newspaper about the upcoming arrival of Haley's Comet on 19 May, he comes up with an idea how he can prevent the wedding from taking place: He tells Strubel that the world is going to come to an end when the comet shows up, so that Strubel will see the errors of his way, cancel the arranged wedding and will become a better person for it. (Sucker!).

For the corpulent nobleman Sir John Falstaff, the inn in the small English town of Windsor is the best of all places. Here he can indulge in excessive dining and intemperate drinking, as well as swagger and boast about his adventures, particularly those of an amorous nature. At present, he has designs on the two young women, Mistress Reich and Fluth, who, in turn, lead the paunchy protagonist mightily by the nose.

GDR, January 1990. After his ouster and the fall of the wall, dictator Erich Honecker and his wife Margot find themselves virtually homeless. Only Protestant pastor Uwe Holmer and his family, who, like many others, have suffered under his tyrannical regime, offer them refuge.

At the riflery club, Jannis runs into his former schoolmate Marvin, who is hiding from a gang. The two accidentally mix up their backpacks. At the office Christmas party, Jannis finds Marvin‘s pistol. He tries to hide it, unnoticed – above all, he doesn’t want his ex-girlfriend, who is at the party, to see it. But then Marvin shows up at the office and wants his gun back.
