The film weaves together the stories of four young adults born in Kosovo and raised in Switzerland. Relying on the use of the director’s personal archives from before and after the war, it explores the delicate position between past and present that characterizes young adults of immigrant descent.
Bufi starts painting his wife from the feet up, and this painting takes him a lot of time. He searches for beautiful places to paint his wife. Something terrible happens, and Bufi is unable to finish her portrait. In the end, we see that the portrait of the wife has closed eyes; Bufi's wife was dead during the time he was painting. He places his wife's corpse on a boat and lets it drift freely.
Silvi's husband dies in an accident. For a period of time, she loses interest in life. However, life goes on, and Silvi recovers. We watch the story of a taxi driver named Tazi, who lives every day in the same monotonous routine. He constantly becomes jealous of other drivers who seem to have more vibrant and interesting lives. While he is driving and continuing his usual route, we discover an interesting twist. Tazi is in the taxi with another version of himself, the passenger who represents his alter ego. This passenger begins to take control and rebel in traffic. In the end, an accident occurs and we discover that everything was just a brief moment of imagination where Tazi has created this other alter ego to escape his daily monotony.
When people asked me about my trip to Tirana and the situation in Kosovo, I was drawn to explore more. Arriving in the city, I was intrigued by a Funeral Home and wanted to understand its significance and religious background. Tirana is home to three major religions living side by side, and I wanted to capture this coexistence. In my search for answers, I found that the feeling of loss is universal. Despite our differences, the shared experience of mourning connects us all, and this common thread is at the heart of my work.
