The characters cross each other as the film progresses, until the three interwoven strands of the story finally come together in an explosive and hilarious crescendo full of surprises.

Icelandic country boy Tómas R. Einarsson got hooked on rhythm in childhood, but couldn't imagine that anything so much fun could be a job. In his twenties passion finally took over and he threw himself head first into learning how to play jazz on the double bass. From there he moved on to the enticing rhythms of Havana. After decades on the road, Tómas returns to his weather-beaten birthplace, with a full Latin band and some hot rhythms of his own.

Stella and Salomon run a business together, framkoma.is. Salomon is hired by Anton Skúlason, pilot, to beautify and transform a village, that he owns. Stella stays in the town and starts teaching politicians how to act for the coming elections. By accident Stella gets involved with the Centrum party, the main rival of the Central party, and before she knows it she's head over heals in politics.

Nomina Sunt Odiosa is Fridrik Thór Fridriksson’s first film. The title is in Latin and means names are not necessary even pointless. Maybe that was a statement from the director for future films to come. Scenes from a school graduation party mix with shots of soft-drink bottles a conveyor belt.
