Slavná legenda o hrstce odvážných, kteří se postavili na stranu bezbranných. Nejslavnější japonský film všech dob, předchůdce filmu Sedm statečných. Těžko by se asi hledal někdo, kdo by neznal legendární americký western o hrstce statečných, kteří se v počtu chabých sedmi postaví přesile banditů, aby ochránili bezbrannou vesnici na odlehlém venkově proti rabování. Western Johna Sturgese patří již téměř půl století k nesmrtelným filmovým evergreenům. Ale jen málokdo ví, že by vůbec nevznikl, nebýt jednoho fenomenálního režiséra, jehož originální umění přesáhlo daleko za hranice rodného Japonska. Že dobrodružný příběh sedmi potulných pistolníků byl přímo inspirován samurajským filmem Akiry Kurosawy, jenž se odehrává ve feudálním Japonsku 16. století. A že to zdaleka není jediný případ amerického hitu inspirovaného dílem tohoto japonského klasika.

Příběh se odehrává v Japonsku, v letech 1876-77, a popisuje přátelství dvou válečníků ze zcela odlišných kultur. Nathan Algren se účastnil občanské války i bojů proti indiánům a tuto temnou minulost utápí v alkoholu. Bývalý kapitán přijme nabídku, aby v Japonsku vycvičil císařské vojsko vyzbrojené americkými puškami. Když nastane prvotní bitva se vzbouřenci, padne Algren do zajetí. Během zotavování je nucen žít v odlehlé horské vesnici. Postupně se sbližuje s Kacumotem - nepřítelem, který vede samurajské povstalce. Algren pozvolna propadá kouzlu venkovských zvyklostí a vedle cizokrajných bojových technik si osvojuje bušidó: samurajské morální zásady. V rozhodující bitvě proti sobě povstává císařská armáda obtěžkaná palnými zbraněmi a samurajové vyzbrojení luky a meči. A Nathan Algren, kapitán-samuraj, tento civilizační střet ztělesňuje více než kdo jiný...

V roce 1879 se Kenšin a jeho spojenci musí postavit zatím nejmocnějšímu nepříteli: Kenšinovu bývalému švagrovi Enišimu Jukiširovi a jeho poskokům, kteří přísahali pomstu.

Róninové chtějí Lorda Kiru porazit za každou cenu, jenže trumfy rozhodně nejsou na jejich straně. Dokud nezískají Kaie. I tak ale bude cesta za spravedlivou odplatou trnitá a jen málokdo z nich po ní dojde až do konce, který navíc může mít v souladu s japonskými tradicemi velmi trpkou příchuť.

Epická akční fantasy podívaná nás zavede do smyšleného světa mladé dívky, jejíž snový svět poskytuje únik z temné reality. Nelimitovaná hranicemi času a prostoru může jít kamkoli si její mysl zamane. Jenže neuvěřitelná dobrodružství jaksi smazávají hranice mezi skutečností a fantazií... s možná tragickými následky.

Ochránce Kenšin byl kdysi nechvalně známý jako zabiják Battósai. Pak ale potkal křehkou Tomoe Jukiširovou a změnil se mu život.

V Japonsku 17. století zavládl konečně na čas mír. Tato situace s sebou ale rovněž nese nárůst počtu róninů - samurajů bez pána, kteří se leckdy bez prostředků potulují krajinou a pokoušejí se uhájit holé živobytí. Dochází rovněž k tomu, že se na prahu domů samurajských klanů, které dosud prosperují, občas objeví zoufalý rónin a žádá o poskytnutí pomoci při spáchání rituální sebevraždy - seppuku. Nezřídka ovšem v skrytu doufá, že se nad ním pán domu slituje a místo požadované smrti mu poskytne naději na lepší život. A některé klany již podobní příchozí začínají unavovat..

Japonský režisér Takashi Miike proslul coby tvůrce, který dokáže žánrovým filmům vetknout nezaměnitelnou osobitost skrze stylovou nevázanost a nápadité naplňování schémat. Za dvacet let v branži vytvořil přes osmdesát titulů rozličných žánrů, ale až nyní dostal možnost natočit výpravný samurajský film. Jeho pompézní remake stejnojmenného filmu z roku 1963 se soustředí na efektní aktualizaci klasického stylu. Krví nasáklý příběh třinácti samurajů, kteří na sebe vezmou úkol zabít zlotřilého knížete, kulminuje v epické bitvě, kde hrdinové stanou proti dvoustovce protivníků.

Po skončení bošinské války se někdejší zabiják Kenšin Himura vydává na pouť Japonskem vyzbrojený mečem s obrácenou čepelí, aby se bez vraždění zastával potřebných.

Lupin, geniální zloděj a jeho společník právě odjíždějí s plným autem peněz z vykradené banky, když si v náhle uvědomí, že peníze jsou pouhé padělky.
