Děj animovaného příběhu se odehrává ve viktoriánské vesnici v 19. století a sleduje příběh Viktora, mladého muže vtaženého do podsvětí, kde je oženěn s tajemnou mrtvou nevěstou. Jeho skutečná nevěsta Viktorie na něj mezitím čeká ve skutečném světě. Přestože se život v Zemi mrtvých ukáže být mnohem barvitější než jeho striktní viktoriánská výchova, dospěje Viktor k závěru, že v tomto ani v dalších světech neexistuje nic, co by ho udrželo odloučeného od jeho skutečné lásky…
