Polák Karel Karel a jeho francouzská manželka Dominique stojí před rozvodovým soudem v Paříži. Soud uzná manželčiny argumenty a rozvede je. Karel tímto okamžikem přichází o vše: o svou velkou lásku, o manželku i kadeřnický salón, do kterého vložil své celoživotní úspory, talent a řemeslnou šikovnost. Bez peněz, bez dokladů, hledaný policii pro údajné žhářství, marně hledá způsob, jak se vrátit do vlasti. Ve snaze vydělat si alespoň pár franků koncertuje v podchodu metra na hřeben a zde se také seznámí s tajemným krajanem Mikolajem, který mu nabídne práci placeného zabijáka. Jen díky němu se Karel nakonec dostává do Polska, ukrytý v obrovském cestovním kufru.

Kirikou se touží dostat z matčina lůna co nejdříve na svět. Jenomže tam se ukáže, že jeho africká víska je v moci zlé a krásné čarodějnice Karaby, která vysušila studny a odvedla neznámo kam všechny muže. Kirikou se vydává do hor za mudrcem, aby odhalil slabou stránku čarodějnice.

Umělecký dokument je výsledkem dlouholeté práce biologů Clauda Nuridsanyho a Marie Pérennouové, kteří se výrazně věnují popularizaci svého oboru. Oba vědci natočili ojedinělý snímek, jenž nabízí pohled do prostředí malých tvorů (většinou z říše hmyzu), obývajících obyčejnou louku na francouzském venkově. Tvůrci oprostili své dílo od obvyklých didaktických funkcí; film obsahuje v úvodu jen krátký poetický komentář, a jeho hlavní složkou jsou fascinující záběry a zvuky z malého světa, jenž se nachází mimo obzor běžného lidského vnímání.
