Shouyou Hinata po prohře s nahrávačem Tobiem Kageyamou z Kitagawské střední školy Daiichi ve svém prvním oficiálním volejbalovém zápase přestoupí na střední školu Karasuno s úmyslem mít konečně pořádný volejbalový tým a pomstít se Kageyamovi. Po příchodu na Karasuno však Hinata zjistí, že Kageyama také odešel na Karasuno. Zpočátku si nerozumějí, ale nakonec vytvoří podivnou kombinaci a bojují spolu s ostatními členy volejbalového klubu. Karasuno se při tréninkovém zápase znovu setkává s bývalou konkurenční školou, Nekomskou střední, a znovu se rozhoří jejich školní rivalita.
Střední škola Karasuno vstupuje do mezistředoškolského volejbalového turnaje a okamžitě dokazuje, že už není "nelétavou vránou". Po prvním zápase se Karasuno utká s Date Tech High a jejich slavnou Železnou zdí, která v předchozím zápase zastavila každý hrot esa Karasuno, Asahiho. Karasuno však tentokrát Železnou zeď prorazí a postupuje do 16. kola. Nově omlazený Karasuno se utká s Aobou Johsai High a usiluje o stejný výsledek jako v jejich prvním tréninkovém zápase.

Šojó Hinata nastupuje do volejbalového týmu na střední škole Karasuno, aby se pokusil navázat na úspěchy svého velkého vzoru, bývalého hráče tohoto týmu, který si vysloužil přezdívku „Malý obr“. Hinata ale velice brzy zjišťuje, že členem týmu je také jeho dřívější nemilosrdný protivník Tobio Kagejama. Ačkoliv by se mohlo zdát, že jejich zcela odlišný herní styl nebude možné sjednotit, ukazuje se, že těchto rozdílů mohou velice dobře využít. Bude to ale stačit na to, aby porazili tým Nekoma v prestižním zápase, přezdívaném „Dumpster Battle“, ve kterém by se mělo definitivně rozhodnout o tom, který z těchto dvou týmů volejbalových outsiderů je skutečně lepší?
Prostředí japonské střední školy. Dívčí kapela ztratí zpěvačku a kytaristku, ale přesto se zbylé tři dívky rozhodnou, vystoupit na blížícím se školním festivalu. Jako zpěvačku přiberou jihokorejskou studentku a rozhodnou se zahrát písně, legendární japonské pankrockové skupiny The Blue Hearts. Do festivalu zbývá týden.

After achieving victory, each of the boys went their separate ways. Time passed, and in the middle of their uneventful high school lives Rin appears and challenges Haruka to a match, showing Haruka his overwhelming power. Not wanting it to end like this, Haruka, gathers together Makoto and Nagisa once again and brings a new member named Rei Ryugazaki to create the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club in order to defeat Rin.
