Dva newyorští travestité, urostlá černoška Noxeema a elegantní dáma Vida, se rozhodnou zúčastnit soutěže krásy. Noxeema a Vida se spolu dělí o první místo a obě získávají zájezd do Kalifornie, kde se zúčastní celostátní soutěže krásy homosexuálních travestitů. Další ze soutěžících, hispánka Chi-Chi, je nešťastná, že neuspěla. Noxeema a Vida prodají své letenky, koupí starý cadillac a pojedou společně i s Chi-Chi do Kalifornie. Cestou projíždějí Vidiným rodným městečkem a ona se odhodlá a zajede k domu svých bohatých rodičů. Když ale matka vidí svého syna v ženských šatech, otočí se k němu zády. Uprostřed noci narazí trojice cestovatelek na opuštěné cestě na venkovského šerifa Dollarda. Zvrhlý šerif netuší, že v autě nejsou ženy. Rád by si s Vidou užil, ta se brání a srazí šerifa k zemi. Vida se domnívá, že je mrtvý. Rychle nasednou do auta a po pár kilometrech vypoví jejich "koráb silnic" službu a travestité se ocitají v zapadlém městečku Snydersville.
