Alkymisten er en navnløs figur der samler en gruppe forskellige mennesker som skal repræsentere planeterne i solsystemet. Målet er at få menneskerne til at smide deres jordiske baggage igennem en række mystiske ritualer. Derefter skal de rejse til det hellige bjerg for at vælte guderne der styrer universet.

Efter en mystisk fange med kun et par uger tilbage på sin straf bryder ud af fængslet i Central City, Elric brødre forsøge at opspore ham. Eftersøgningen fører dem til tabel By i den sydvestlige land Creta, hvor Alphonse redder en ung alkymist ved navn Julia fra den meget mand, de forsøger at fange. I den tykke af kampen, de bogstaveligt talt tumler ind Julias hjemmebane, slum Milos Valley, og er involveret i den folkelige oprør af hendes folk.

Mens alkymisten Edward Elric søger efter en måde at genskabe sin bror Als krop på, holder militærregeringen og mystiske monstre øje med ham.

At morderen er... et væsen... der stjæler ofrenes sjæle?

En jordforskers vandring gennem skove for at finde en forsvundet kollega bliver skræmmende, da han opdager en uventet mørk side af Moder Natur.

Det går snart op for sol­da­ter­ne, at skat­ten kan være no­get an­det end guld, og lang­somt bli­ver de ofre for fryg­tind­g­y­den­de kræf­ter, der er fan­get i mar­ken. Den van­vit­ti­ge en­gel­ske in­struk­tør Ben Whe­at­ley (Sight­se­ers og Kill List) står bag den­ne sort/​hvi­de, psy­ke­de­li­ske tur ud i magi og van­vid!
