Bretagne, 1760. Kunstneren Marianne skal male et portræt af den unge Héloïse. Maleriet skal sendes til Milano til Héloïse's kommende brudgom. Men hun vil ikke giftes, og Marianne må male hende i smug om natten, efter de har gået ture om dagen. Langsomt udvikler forholdet sig i en uventet retning, der ændrer alt for de to kvinder.

Alt kan ske, når det er midnat i Paris. Det opdager forfatterspiren Gil, der er på ferie med sin forlovede, Inez. Inez går kun op i shopping, så Gil begynder at udforske byernes by på egen hånd. Ved nattetide møder han den smukke Adriana, der på magisk vis tager ham med til 20'ernes Paris. Snart hænger Gil ud med alle sine helte - kunstner-bohemer som Hemingway, Picasso og Dalí.

De amerikanske veninder Vicki og Cristina er på ferie i Barcelona. På et galleri møder de den charmerende kunstnerboheme José Antonio, der uden omsvøb tilbyder både sightseeing og sex. Cristina lader sig hurtigt friste, og langsomt tør den forsigtige Vicki op og overgiver sig til den varmblodede spanske passion. Vicki og Cristinas ferie forvandles til en sanselig rejse, hvor tiltrækning og temperament kulminerer i en overophedning af begær og disharmoni, da ex-konen Maria Elena gør sin dramatiske entré. "Vicki Cristina Barcelona" er en finurlig og livsbekræftende hyldest til flirten og passionen og ikke mindst til byen Barcelona.

I filmen '50/50' får den 27-årige Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), som ellers er ved godt helbred, konstateret kræft. Adam fortæller det til sin kæreste (Bruce Dallas Howard), sin bedste ven (Seth Rogen) og sin mor (Anjelica Huston), som i forvejen har nok at se til med sin mand og Adams far, der lider af Alzheimers. Hver især forsøger de at forholde sig til nyheden og de efterfølgende behandlinger. Adam får også hjælp fra en ung og noget uerfaren terapeut (Anna Kendrick), som hospitalet henviser ham til, og samtidig bliver han venner med to, lidt ældre kemopatienter. '50/50' er baseret på en sand historie.

Da dagdrømmeren Ishaan bliver sendt på kostskole, forsøger en utraditionel billedkunstlærer at hjælpe den fantasifulde elev med at realisere sig selv.

'Den danske pige' handler om danskeren Einar Wegener, der var den første person, der fik en kønsskifteoperation. Nyhavn, 1924. Portrætmaleren Gerda Wegener beder sin mand, landskabsmaleren Einar, om at posere som kvinde, for at hun kan færdiggøre et maleri. Oplevelsen får Einar til at indse, at han altid har følt sig som en kvinde fanget i en mands krop. Einars forvandling til Lili bliver også en udfordring for Gerda, men hun støtter sin mand, da han opsøger en tysk læge for at få verdens første kønsskifteoperation.

Deuce Bigalow er ikke ligefrem den fødte gigolo, men da hans tidligere alfons T.J. bliver anklaget for seriemord i Holland, må han trække i arbejdstøjet igen for at skaffe penge til en retssag. Han drager mod Europa, hvor han bliver konfonteret med Den europæiske union af gigoloer. Desuden møder han en lang række mildest talt mærkværdige kvindelige klienter.

Februar 1888. Den hollandske maler Vincent van Gogh ankommer til Arles i Sydfrankrig. Han drømmer om helt andre farver og penselstrøg, nyt lys og varmere breddegrader. Men venskabet med den franske maler Paul Gauguin går skævt, og van Gogh befinder sig pludseligt i en voldsom livskrise, mentalt såvel som religiøst.

I 1600-tallets Amsterdam bliver den forældreløse Sophia tvangsgift med den rige handelsmand Cornelis Sandvoort. Snart indleder hun en affære med den unge maler Jan, der er blevet hyret til at portrættere hende. I håb om at slippe ud af Sandvoort's greb sætter de elskende alt på højkant og kaster sig over det hektiske marked for tulipanløg. Håbet er, at det rette løg vil indtjene dem en formue og købe deres frihed.

Den fraskilte Louise er smuk og succesfuld, men kaster længselsfulde blikke efter de elskende par i parken. En dag modtager hun en usædvanlig ansøgning på universitetet, hvor hun arbejder. Da den unge ansøger dukker op til sit interview, ligner han til forveksling Louises store ungdomskærlighed, der døde for 20 år siden. Inden interviewet er omme, har de to indledt en affære. Men hvem er den unge mand egentlig, og hvad kan deres forhold blive til?

Et år efter kunstmaleren Vincent van Gogh's død begiver den unge Armand Roulin sig af sted for at overdrage et efterladt brev fra Vincent til hans bror, Theo. Det bliver en rejse, hvor Armand samtidig bliver en hel del klogere på den martrede malers liv. 'Loving Vincent' er helt og aldeles håndmalet i van Gogh's stil, af et hold på flere end 100 kunstnere. The Joy of Painting was an American television show hosted by painter Bob Ross that taught its viewers techniques for landscape oil painting. Although Ross could complete a painting in half an hour, the intent of the show was not to teach viewers "speed painting". Rather, he intended for viewers to learn certain techniques within the time that the show was allotted. The show began on January 11, 1983, and lasted until May 17, 1994, a year before Ross' death.

The drama has won numerous awards, including the Asian TV Series Special Award at the 2010 Shanghai Television Festival and the silver award at the 2010 Houston International Film Festival, while actress Moon Geun-young received the grand prize at the 2008 SBS Drama Awards, as well as Best TV Actress at the 2009 Baeksang Arts Awards and 2008 Grimae Awards for her role.
