Backwards Birth of a Nation is a re-editing of D.W. Griffith's 187-minute film, Birth of a Nation (1915), into a pulsating 13-minute black and white phantasm. By means of structural strategies of condensation, the frame by frame inversion of black and white, and playing the resulting work from end to beginning, an apparition is brought forth where images of racism float to the surface and are contextualized as a part of the flow of United States history.
In Drum Solo, an unexpected cast of characters performs for the viewer in an amusing, dreamlike manner that draws humor from the banality of everyday life. Loosely related to Surrealism and Pop Art, Porter’s lyrical film reanimates found objects, toys, and figurines that the artist purchased from antique stores and flea markets. The artist manipulates kitsch in ways that call attention to the artifice and ridiculousness of such objects as essentially useless materials.
Two abused women become friends, but violent death intervenes in this update of Les Diaboliques.
Looking outward, this is a segment from a series revolving around the relationship between Pierce's son and daughter. Their relationship is too complicated and too dynamic to understand. This piece doesn’t try to explain anything other than the fact of an overlapping acoustic environment and proximate activities. Looking inward, Wood is also a reflection on the many overlapping rhythms of the body.

Social Visions suggests the myriad histories and futures that constitute Los Angeles; a city whose public image has been used as cover for the abuse of its population but also a city where one senses the potential for radical social change. Los Angeles is suffering from all the worst side effects of America's social and economic reforms. Industry, commerce and the middle classes have all jumped ship and left a husk of a city. The most basic public services such as roads and water run along the lines of money and in the poorer parts of town life breaks down. There is insecurity everywhere; privatisation threatens more jobs, social security is a misnomer and the land can be bought from under your feet. Immigration from South America and the far-east increases while middle class populations dwindle. A small clique presides over the image of the city, but it is a city that they hardly know. Without money or political power, the majority of people who live here are invisible.
