Ο Τέρενς Φλέτσερ, εξίσου γνωστός για το ταλέντο του στη μουσική εκπαίδευση με τις τρομακτικές του μεθόδους, είναι επικεφαλής ενός τζαζ γκρουπ στο σχολείο. Θα ανακαλύψει τον Άντριου και θα τον πάρει στην μπάντα. Από αυτό το σημείο, το πάθος του νεαρού για την τελειότητα θα του γίνει εμμονή, ενώ ο αδίστακτος δάσκαλος θα τραβήξει τα όρια τόσο των ικανοτήτων του, όσο και της ψυχής του.

Η ιστορία ακολουθεί τον Joe Gardner, έναν καθηγητή μουσικής στο γυμνάσιο και λάτρη της jazz, που θα έχει την ευκαιρία να παίξει μουσική σε ένα υψηλό προφίλ jazz club. Όμως, λίγο πριν ο Joe καταφέρει να εκπληρώσει το όνειρό του πεθαίνει και ξαφνικά βρίσκεται στο 'You Seminar', ένα φανταστικό μέρος που θα τον αναγκάσει να σκεφτεί ξανά το τι ακριβώς σημαίνει να διαθέτεις ψυχή.

Στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ’70 και με μια τεράστια καριέρα στον χώρο της μοντέρνας τζαζ o Miles Davis εξαφανίζεται από τη δημόσια σκηνή, επηρεασμένος από τα ναρκωτικά και τα παυσίπονα. Τότε είναι που μπαίνει στη ζωή του ο Dave Braden ένας μουσικός ρεπόρτερ που ξεκινά να ψάχνει μαζί του μια κλεμμένη κασέτα με ηχογραφήσεις του σπουδαίου Davis. Θα βρει τελικά τη λύτρωση ο Davis για μια ακόμη φορά στην τέχνη του;'

Ένα αφρο-φουτουριστικό κράμα blaxploitation, επιστημονικής φαντασίας και πολιτικής αλληγορίας, που χτίζει ένα «εναλλακτικό πεπρωμένο», απαλλαγμένο από τη φυλετική προκατάληψη και καταπίεση.

In a similar style to Get Lost!, where Neville Keaton and Judy Threadgold feature in an ensemble cast, The Beiderbecke Affair is intended as a sequel; however, Alun Armstrong was unavailable, sp the premise was reworked. It is the first part of The Beiderbecke Trilogy with the two sequel series being The Beiderbecke Tapes and The Beiderbecke Connection.
