Το 1944, στο Σαλό της βόρειας Ιταλίας, τέσσερις φασίστες που εκπροσωπούν τις βασικές μορφές εξουσίας κλείνουν διά της βίας σε απομονωμένο παλάτι μια ομάδα παρθένων αγοριών και κοριτσιών. Το "Σαλό", μια ταινία που αρνείται να μπει στη διαδικασία του να προσπαθήσει να γίνει αρεστή σε οποιοδήποτε είδος κοινού, ήταν η ύστατη ταινία που γύρισε ο Pasolini. Λίγους μήνες αργότερα, η βία, ένα από τα θέματα που ανέλυσε διεξοδικά μέσα από το έργο του, σφράγισε οριστικά και την ίδια του τη ζωή.
