Θα καταφέρει να κάνει το όνειρο να κρατήσει για πάντα; Η ιστορία της ξετυλίγεται μέσα από πανέμορφο animation και, φυσικά, υπέροχο χορό!
Μετά τον χωρισμό των γονιών του, ο Ren μετακομίζει από το Σικάγο σε μία κωμόπολη, όπου οι θρησκευόμενοι κάτοικοι θεωρούν το rock & roll και το χορό έργα του σατανά. Η σύγκρουση με το κατεστημένο δεν θ`αργήσει να έρθει, καθώς ο Ren, αρνούμενος να υποτακτεί στο σύστημα που τον περιβάλει θα προσπαθήσει να ξεσηκώσει τους νέους της πόλης ώστε ν`αντιταχθούν σ`όσα τους επιβάλλουν.
Η Alex Owens(Jennifer Beals) είναι μια όμορφη, εργατική και αποφασισμένη δεκαοχτάχρονη γυναίκα. Τα πρωινά δουλεύει σαν οξυγονοκολλήτρια σ’ ένα εργοστάσιο μόνο και μόνο για να μπορεί τα βράδια να κάνει αυτό που πραγματικά αγαπά: να χορεύει! Όταν είναι πάνω στη σκηνή νιώθει ελεύθερη, ζωντανή. Είναι όλη της η ζωή και γι αυτό το λόγο επιθυμεί διακαώς να φύγει από το μπαρ που δουλεύει ως εξωτική χορεύτρια και να σπουδάσει μπαλέτο στο Θέατρο Χορού και Ρεπερτορίου του Pittsburgh. Δεν έχει όμως το κουράγιο να κάνει αίτηση και έτσι αναβάλλει συνέχεια την οντισιόν. Μια βραδιά το αφεντικό της(Michael Nouri) παρακολουθεί μια παράστασή της και την ερωτεύεται. Με τις διασυνδέσεις που έχει, επιτυγχάνει να της κανονίσει μια οντισιόν. Παράλληλα παρακολουθούμε την ιστορία της κολλητής της Jeanie(Sunny Johnson), η οποία επίσης προσπαθεί να απαγκιστρωθεί από το μίζερο μπαρ που δουλεύει ως σερβιτόρα και να ασχοληθεί με το καλλιτεχνικό πατινάζ.

Την επομένη μαθαίνει ότι βρέθηκε νεκρή. Στην περίεργη στάση που κρατούν οι καθηγητές και το προσωπικό προστίθεται η φήμη ότι στις αρχές του αιώνα η σχολή ήταν κέντρο μαγείας και αποκρυφισμού.

Most interior scenes were filmed in Hollywood, California, and in all seasons but the third, several exterior scenes were shot on location in New York City. The popularity of the series, particularly in the UK, led to several hit records and live concert tours by the cast. Despite its success, very few of the actors maintained high-profile careers after the series was cancelled. A number of the cast members were seen again briefly in Bring Back...Fame, a reunion special made for British television in 2008.
