Ο Σκότφιλντ του λέει ότι ο σερίφης της πόλης όπου έγινε ο φόνος, ο Λιτς Μπιλ Ντάγκετ, είναι πρώην πιστολέρο και έδειξε ιδιαίτερη ανοχή απέναντι στους δολοφόνους....

Στην Αριζόνα του μακρινού 1873 καταφθάνει μία απειλή που δεν προέρχεται απ' το δικό μας κόσμο. Ένας ξένος χωρίς καμία μνήμη του τι έχει προηγηθεί, εντοπίζεται στη μέση του πουθενά από ντόπιους καουμπόυς. Στον αριστερό καρπό του βρίσκεται ένα περίεργο μεταλλικό μαραφέτι. Η αναζήτηση της ταυτότητάς του θα τον φέρει στην πόλη Absolution, ένα μέρος όπου κανείς δε συμπαθεί τους ξένους και όλοι υποκύπτουν στις επιταγές του σκληροτράχηλου Woodrow Dolarhyde. Αυτό όμως που έρχεται από το μακρινό διάστημα δεν κάνει διακρίσεις και σύντομα θα αποδειχθεί ότι η μοναδική ελπίδα της πόλης εναποτίθεται σε αυτόν τον ξένο.

Though neither Griffith nor the show won awards during its eight-season run, series co-stars Knotts and Bavier accumulated a combined total of six Emmy Awards. The show, a semi-spin-off from an episode of The Danny Thomas Show titled "Danny Meets Andy Griffith", spawned its own spin-off series, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., a sequel series, Mayberry R.F.D., and a reunion telemovie, Return to Mayberry. The show's enduring popularity has generated a good deal of show-related merchandise. Reruns currently air on TV Land, and the complete series is available on DVD.
