Karmil Berki saarel, kus viikingid ja lohed on põlvkondade vältel olnud lepitamatud vaenlased, eristub Kokutis (Mason Thames) kõigist teistest. Pealik Stoik Suure (Gerard Butler) leidlik, kuid tähelepanuta jäetud poeg trotsib sajanditepikkuseid traditsioone, kui ta sõbruneb kardetud tõugu lohega, kellel paneb nimeks Hambutu.
