Varaküps 17-aastane Ameerika ja Itaalia verd Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet) veedab 1983. aasta suve Põhja-Itaalias perekonna 17. sajandil ehitatud villas. Ta komponeerib ja mängib klassikalist muusikat, loeb raamatuid ning flirdib sõbra Marziaga (Esther Garrel). Eliol on lähedane suhe professorist isaga (Michael Stuhlbarg), kelle eriala on Kreeka ja Rooma kultuur, ja tõlkijast ema Annellaga (Amira Casar).
