1980. aasta mai. Man-seob on Seoulis töötav taksojuht, kes elab üksikisana enda tütart kasvatades palgapäevast palgapäevani. Samal ajal on linnas ka välismaalane, kes on valmis maksma suurt summat selleks, et minna Gwangjusse, kus on samal ajal käimas diktatuurliku riigikorra vastased meeleavaldused. Man-seob, kes ei tea, et tegemist on sakslasest ajakirjanikuga, kes soovib toimuvat jäädvustada, võtab töö vastu. Sealt arenevad edasi sündmused, mis muudavad nii mõlema mehe elu kui ka Lõuna-Korea riigi edasist käekäiku.
