Vana tark paavian Rafiki jutustab legendaarsest lõvikuningast Mufasast noorele kutsikale Kiarale, Simba ja Nala tütrele. Jutustamisele segavad pidevalt oma kommentaaridega vahele lahutamatud sõbrad Timon ja Pumbaa. Rafiki meenutustes rullub lahti lugu Mufasast, kui vanemateta kutsikast.
