Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), kes on põlu all kui Lääne Kuri Nõid, elab paguluses, peidab end sügaval Ozi laantes, jätkates samal ajal võitlust Ozi vaigistatud loomade vabaduse eest ja püüdes meeleheitlikult paljastada tõde, mida ta teab armastatud Võluri (Jeff Goldblum) kohta. Noor Furiosa röövitakse Paljude Emade Rohelisest Paigast ja ta satub sõjapealik Dementuse juhitud mootorratturite jõugu kätte. Tühermaal jõutakse Immortan Joe valitsetavasse Tsitadelli ja kahe türanni vahel puhkeb sõda. Furiosa peab võitlema ellujäämise eest ja otsima koduteed.

Vana tark paavian Rafiki jutustab legendaarsest lõvikuningast Mufasast noorele kutsikale Kiarale, Simba ja Nala tütrele. Jutustamisele segavad pidevalt oma kommentaaridega vahele lahutamatud sõbrad Timon ja Pumbaa. Rafiki meenutustes rullub lahti lugu Mufasast, kui vanemateta kutsikast. Sihitult ekseldes satub tema teele Taka, lõvide dünastia kuningliku vereliini pärija. Juhuslikust kohtumisest saab alguse teekond rühmale heidikutele, kes otsivad oma saatust. Nende suhted pannakse proovile, kui nad teevad koostööd, et pääseda ähvardava ohu eest.
