When a band of robbers menaces the realm, the Duke of the Winter Castle sends his enchanted, crystal-tipped sword to his friend Matěj the blacksmith for sharpening, only for the magical gem to vanish without a trace. As Matěj joins the Duke’s campaign to reclaim the blade, the Duke’s daughter Johanka and a spiteful curse from the smith’s heartbroken wife threaten to derail their quest and doom the kingdom.

A tragicomic story from a tragicomic time - this is how one could characterize Jiří Hubac's play, which premiered in May 1991. The drama of two friends who fought in England as Czech airmen during the war and had to live through the well-known martyrdom after returning home is a story about the power of friendship, the courage to transcend oneself in the face of violence and the right to preserve human memory. The television film by director Jaroslav Dudek, who cast Jiří Bartoska and Josef Dvořák in the lead roles, was honoured with the prestigious Prix Europe international award in Reykjavik.

Three friends from a wet neighbourhood come back from the pub properly stoned and decide to continue partying at the home of one of them, because he has a nice wife who understands and gives them a nice treat. But the reality is somewhat different...

Kamil and Vlasta are a married couple living apart for work. When Vlasta stops in Prague to surprise him, she finds him “away” and asks his friend Pepek for help. Ignoring Pepek’s excuse, she heads to a nightclub—only to encounter Kamil with his mistress. News of Vlasta’s visit forces Kamil into a charade: he returns home to her empty-handed, then avoids her until morning at the station, where a mysterious package brings his clandestine night to a close.

Marta (Lucie Patikova) was blinded in an accident brought on by her careless and indulgent younger sister. Now in a school for the blind, Marta keeps up her hope that she will one day see again, mainly because her mother - out of good intentions - has led her to believe that the blindness is only temporary. Before long, Marta comes to realize that her condition will last until she dies, and she begins to despair, hating her mother for giving her false hope. Only a dedicated psychologist, Dr. Mos (Oldrich Navratil) seems to have the means of retrieving Marta from her depression.

Jitka is a 12-year-old girl who feels the first stirring of love. She becomes friends with a young man who is hospitalized with paralysis. Jitka visits the man every day and witnesses his slow recovery, but she is unaware that she could have deeper feelings for him.

The exemplary accountant Antonín Safránek lives his orderly life as a citizen of a small town. His wife Eliska brings up their three children and desperately tries to get by on her husband's low salary every month. At the same time, she sadly watches the luxurious life of their neighbor and other people like him who have no qualms about improving their standard of living by cheating. One day, the infallible Safránek makes a mistake in the cash clearance and there are nine one-hundred Crown bills left in the safe. An unexpected company control carried out the next day passes without problems and the account is closed. The temptation is too strong. The insufficient control enables Safránek to gradually steal one million Crowns.

In a kingdom, there lives a widowed king and his capricious and wayward daughter Jitka. One day, the king gets lost while hunting and meets a mysterious old woman and her beautiful daughter. He immediately falls in love with the girl and takes her to the castle with him. But Jitka is not thrilled about her new mother. And so she discovers that the future queen is not the daughter of a strange woman. But on the journey to find out who is who and what role she plays in the fairy tale, perhaps the most important role is played by Všudybyl, a young man who offers Jitka help and his heart at the right moment.

Life is not easy for Laika, a dog on the outskirts of a big Russian city. She is caught and forcibly retrained to become a pioneer in astronautics. Soon after her lift-off into space, a number of animals follow that are hurriedly launched from Houston and Baikonur. The animals travel astray, but finally manage, with the help of a black hole, to colonize a faraway planet. After a short period of harmonious, undisturbed co-existence with indigenous life forms, however, first human cosmonaut run ashore on their planet, and their harmonious life, indeed their very survival, are suddenly in jeopardy.

The economic crisis affects the lives of many people. Professor Václav Junek gradually discovers how significantly his idealistic vision differs from the real life of his four children. The eldest son Zdeněk has been an unemployed engineer for two years. Daughter Pavla, a doctor, works in a hospital for a very low salary. The second daughter Hanka has left her job as a stenographer and wants to become a film actress...

In Slovakia’s Tatra mountains, ironsmith Pavel lives with his son Janko and orphan Anuška, who are close. Janko spends summer pasturing sheep, while Anuška deals with Jura’s advances. Janko meets Soňa Varenová, a city woman seeking peace, and becomes her guide, causing village gossip. At a festival, Janko ignores Anuška for Soňa, angering Pavel. Pavel asks Soňa to leave Janko for Anuška, and she agrees despite her feelings. Janko seeks Anuška’s forgiveness, but she’s in the mountains. He follows her, and they reconcile by lighting a large fire.

Maniac, a driver, sits on the track women, which then rape and kill. For loved ones, he is an ordinary person who has a wife and child. When exposed, he does not stop before killing his wife and takes his son hostage, under the guise of which he is trying to escape abroad.

The third and final installment of the fairy-tale fencing comedies Crossed Swords and Ringing Swords. Once again, they are full of intrigue and misfortune, but also the search for happiness and love. The villain, Count Meron, attempts to poison the young king, seize the throne, and pin the blame on the innocent Peter. New characters also play a significant role in the story - the camp follower Vilma and her young daughter Jana, who is disguised as a boy out of fear of bandits. Love naturally reaches its goal, evil in the form of Count Meron is punished, and the inevitable fairy-tale happy ending follows...

Barrandov Studios, once one of Europe’s most modern film factories, became both a cultural refuge and a propaganda tool under Nazi occupation, churning out Czech comedies and romances to keep the public distracted while its actors mingled with German authorities.
