A young Roma girl named Fati finds out about her grandmother’s illness—anemia due to iron-deficiency. Disappointed because of her lack of money to buy the necessary medicine, she sees a notice in a discarded newspaper: ‘Ecological Action: wagons for old iron arrive in train station for recycling’. She comes up with a creative plan and goes to see Andrej, the local mafia boss who often visits Grandmother Fatima for fortunetelling. The superstitious boss orders his bodyguards to rob the train and deliver the iron to the old lady. Amazed by the ironic story, the police officers release Perhan and help to obtain the necessary medication for Fatima.

Vele can’t afford to buy the expensive medications for his father who has cancer. Desperate, he steals marijuana from some criminals, makes a cake with it and gives it to his father, hoping it will reduce his pain. His father’s health miraculously improves, but Vele is suddenly confronted by neighbors who demand the recipe for the “remedial” cake and by the criminals who want their drugs back.
At the age of eighteen, Goran arrives in Italy from Macedonia. In no time he wins the trust of many Barolo wine producers and begins providing them with labour. The Macedonian labourers call him “the Cowboy”. Today he lives in Govone where he rents and shares a modest farmhouse with his girlfriend Antoaneta. He is worried because everything is starting to go wrong after years of doing well, maybe it’s becoming a little too much for a Macedonian living in Italy. When there seems to be no way out, he decides to embark on a journey backwards, towards east, towards home. But Macedonia also seems to reject him.
