Bilkuin, Shima and Didi are three youths living on Omadal Island, situated off the coast of Sabah in Borneo, where a majority of the population consists of the stateless Bajau Laut (Sea Gypsies). After joining and excelling in a filmmaking workshop, they are selected to be junior directors or apprentices to be mentored by a professional film crew. 'Jom Kita Ke Laut' tells the specific story of their three lives as they try to document it on their own, which eventually gives us a view of how life is on the island for the Bajau Laut and the challenges they face by being stateless in their own land and not having access to basic human rights like education and healthcare.

After cutting himself accidentally during one of his live-streaming sessions, Farid, a boy from a rural area of Malaysia, is offered money by one of his followers to do it again.

Faliq is a calm boy who tends to not draw too much attention. Kirana is an outgoing spitfire who is always battle ready. They met when they were 14. Faliq is a supportive best friend, especially in Kirana’s conquest of finding love. Her dating principles are simple: the man must last through her 7-Day Relationship (7DR) rule for her to consider a proper commitment. As luck would have it, Kirana reunited with Arif, a former 7DR partner of hers. When Arif re-entered Kirana’s life, Faliq started behaving out of character. Emotional outbursts and angry confrontations became all too common in Faliq’s life. These not-so-subtle changes are on the brink of damaging his relationships with people around him, especially with Kirana. Suppressing his love for Kirana and his envy over Kirana’s and Arif’s relationship was becoming rather difficult for him. He wanted to turn his friendship with Kirana into a more serious commitment as he believed Kirana’s feelings are mutual.
