اعضای تیم انتقام‌جویان و همچنین متحدان آنها در حال محافظت از سیاره زمین هستند و با تهدیدهایی مقابله می‌کنند که بزرگ‌تر از حد توان هر قهرمانی برای مقابله با آنها است. در همین برهه زمانی خطر جدیدی ظاهر می‌شود که از پس سایه‌های دنیای کهکشانی بیرون آمده و فراتر از تصور همه است؛ آن هم کسی نیست جز تانوس، حاکم ظالم و ستمگر بدنام دنیای بین کهکشانی. هدف او از به راه انداختن این بازی ناعادلانه، به‌دست آوردن هر شش سنگِ سنگ‌های بینهایت (Infinity Stones) است؛ سنگ‌هایی که دارای قدرت‌های غیرقابل تصور هستند. تانوس با داشتن این سنگ‌های بینهایت می‌تواند روی همه واقعیت‌ها تاثیر بگذارد. هر چیزی که اعضای تیم انتقام‌جویان برای آن جنگیده بودند، آنها را به این نقطه زمانی رساند؛ در هیچ برهه زمانی‌ای، سرنوشت زمین و همچنین آینده موجودیت آن تا این اندازه نامشخص و نگران‌کننده نبوده است.
