سال 1901. «جان برنارد بوکس» (وین)، معروف به «تیرانداز»، وارد شهر کارسن سیتی ایالت نوادا می شود و به سراغ دوست قدیمی اش «دکتر هاستتلر» (استوارت) می رود. اما دکتر خبر خوبی برای او ندارد و می گوید که «بوکس» به سرطان مبتلاست و چند هفته ی دیگر بیش تر زنده نمی ماند...
