بوگ با یک گوزن به نام الیوت آشنا می‌شود و همین گوزن زندگی متمدن او را به هم می‌ریزد. طوری که محیط‌بان مجبور می‌شود هر دوی آن‌ها را به جنگل بازگرداند و آنها در تلاشی کورکورانه هستند تا از این جنگل فرار کرده و به شهر بازگردند. در این میان یک شکارچی به دنبال آن‌هاست که با نقشه هوشمندانه و کمک تمامی حیوانات جنگل پا به فرار می‌گذارد. حالا دیگر روزهای سخت سپری شده است و آن‌ها به جنگل عادت کرده‌اند و تصمیم می‌گیرند در جنگل بمانند.
