Punchlines was a comedy game show series hosted by Lennie Bennett that was produced by LWT and aired on the ITV network from January 3, 1981 until December 22, 1984. The show was based on an unsold U.S. pilot hosted by Bill Cullen which was made for daily syndication on December 30, 1979 as an attempt to revive Eye Guess which ran on NBC from January 3, 1966 to September 26, 1969 and, like Punchlines, was created by Bob Stewart and hosted by Cullen. An Australian pilot was also made for the Seven Network on August 20, 1986 - hosted by Jeremy Kewley but it failed to sell.

Hickory Hideout was a television program for children which aired in Cleveland, Ohio on WKYC-TV from 1981 to 1991. It had human hosts, Cassie Wolfe and Wayne Turney, puppet squirrel characters, and a handful of other characters, such as Buzz Buzzsaw and Cecelia C. Seesaw. It addressed psychological issues that children face and was a change from the usual lineup of Saturday morning animation based cartoons. Kathryn Hahn, a Cleveland native who later appeared in the NBC series Crossing Jordan, had her first TV appearance on the show. The show also featured a young Matthew James Murphy, who went on to perform in the Broadway musical Rent. At the time of the program's production, WKYC-TV was an NBC owned-and-operated station. From 1986 until the program's conclusion in 1991 Hickory Hideout was also broadcast on other NBC-owned stations, including WNBC-TV in New York City; WRC-TV in Washington, D.C.; WMAQ-TV in Chicago; KCNC-TV in Denver; and KNBC in Los Angeles.

Adapted for television by screenwriters Cliff Green and Roger Simpson, the series starred Lewis Fitz-Gerald, Adam Garnett, Tony Barry, Julie Hamilton, Ann Henderson, Lesley Baker, Olivia Brown, Debra Lawrance and Darren MacDonald. A large part of supporting and minor roles also featured cameo appearances by cast members of Prisoner such as Esme Melville, Peter Curtin, Ian Smith, Christine Amor, Fiona Spence, Edward Hepple, Sigrid Thornton, Leila Hayes, Sandy Gore, Mary Ward, Anne Phelan. Future cast members included Billie Hammerberg and Pepe Trevor.
