Avainsana Zombie

Saariyhteisöstään mantereelle lähteneen nuoren Spike-pojan edellisen elokuvan (28 Years Later, 2025) lopussa kohtaama outo joukkio osoittautuu satanistiseksi kultiksi. Spike pakotetaan jengin jäseneksi, sormeksi, heidän jakaessaan väkivaltaa saatanan nimeen. Sir Lord Jimmy Crystalin johtama joukkio vaeltaa raivotautiviruksen tuhoamassa Britanniassa häväisten ja tuhoten rauhallisia selviytyjiä. Samaan aikaan tohtori Ian Kelson jatkaa tutkimuksiaan ja ystävyyttään alfa Samsonin kanssa pyrkiäkseen ymmärtämään tartunnan luonnetta ja mahdollista parannuskeinoa. Näiden kahden ryhmän tiet kohtaavat dramaattisesti Kelsonin kuolleiden kunniaksi rakentamassa luutemppelissä.

Kun yksi ryhmän jäsenistä lähtee saarelta tehtävälle mantereen synkkään sydämeen, saa hän selville salaisuuksia, ihmeitä ja kauheuksia, jotka ovat muokanneet niin tartunnan saaneita kuin muita selviytyjiä.

Iso-Britanniassa kolme eläinaktivistia murtautuu laboratorioon vapauttaakseen siellä olevat sairaat simpanssit. He kohtaavat laborantin, joka kertoo simpanssien kantavan virusta nimeltä "raivo". Aktivistit tuhahtavat eivätkä ota todesta laborantin varoituksia, ja vapauttavat yhden simpansseista. 28 päivää myöhemmin pyörälähetti nimeltä Jim herää tyhjästä sairaalasta Lontoossa ja alkaa ihmetellä, missä on kaikki ihmiset ja miksi koko kaupunki on tyhjä? Yhdessä he päättävät yrittää etsiä muita elossa olevia ihmisiä. He päätyvät muutaman sotilaan asuttamaan kartanoon ja saavat pian havaita, että tappava virus ei ole heidän ainoa uhkaajansa.
