Tarina kietoutuu kahden sähköyhtiössä työskentelevän monsterin – Matias "Masi" Pallopään ja Tarmo "Tare" Karvasen (englanniksi Mike Wazowski ja James P. Sullivan) – ympärille, jotka ovat yhtiön ylivoimaisesti tuotteliaimmat pelottelijat.
