Deux anciens collègues professeurs, Aochi et Nakasago, se rencontrent dans une ville du bord de mer. Ils font la connaissance d'une geisha nommée Koine. Six mois plus tard, Aochi, ayant appris que Nakasago s'est marie, lui rend visite et constate que son épouse, Sono, ressemble étrangement a Koine.
