Macross Delta se déroule lors de l'année 2067, 8 ans après les événements de la dernière série TV Macross, Macross Frontier. L'histoire se concentre sur Walküre, une équipe d'idoles talentueuses et pilotes de Valkyrie, ainsi que sur l'escadron Delta, un groupe de pilotes de Valkyrie expérimentés dans leur combat contre le syndrome Var, une entité mystérieuse qui consume la galaxie.
