Koli, an honorable elderly man has just opened his business, a "Funeral Agency." After her father Asllan has lived in exile for sixty years, Dea returns with him to Makermal. This Kosovar village that was once his home was destroyed in the war, leaving only the stories of the survivors. Together with the remaining villagers, Swiss-Kosovar director Dea Gjinovci and her father embark on a search for traces of the past and are confronted with the collective scars of a community.

Sokol is a middle-aged Kosovar Albanian who, together with his family, emigrates from Kosovo to Turkey, and faces the foreign and unknown world. After some time he becomes homesick, eventually leaving his last will he gave to his son that when he dies, his bones will be returned to his native country. He dies near of a cliff at the Black Sea coast. In his native village, the news that Sokol has been returned from emigration are being spread.

Asim, one of the sons of an old engine driver, has gone astray: he does not like to work and is not happy with the modest place he has in life; he even reproaches his father for not having "profited more from life" and for having failed" to secure a cozy future for his children". His other son, Kujtim, is a modest worker.

Uka is an old Albanian who lives in the mountains on the border of Kosovo and Albania. As an honorable man, he must deal with his son who befriended Italian fascists during WW2.

The two Albanian filmmakers Vani and Kaçi are invited to attend the Venice International Film Festival. They have been close friends since childhood until now on their 60's. At the beginning of the trip from Bari to Venice, they meet two actresses who working in the adult movies industry. From this moment on, the four of them continue the trip to Venice together wich brings a lot of turmoil for the unequal travel company of two conservative Albanians and two open-minded ladies with such different views of life.

Fusing documentary and fiction, the film depicts the lives of children trying to survive the aftermath of war in Kosovo by selling cigarettes on the street. Through monologues performed by the children against the eerie backdrops of Pristina, the film tells their gripping and sad story of memory, loss and fear.

Albania and neighboring Yugoslavia officially broke ties in 1948. But in 1971, the Hoxha regime was honored to welcome the ethnic Albanian actor Bekim Fehmiu (1936-2010), at the time an international star in Yugoslav theater and film. Before his trip to Albania, Fehmiu had appeared in the popular Italian television smash The Odyssey (1968) and the Cannes-winning I Even Met Happy Gypsies (1967). Dokufest will also feature a photo exhibit of recently-discovered still images taken during Bekim Fehmiu’s Albanian visit.
