Nemo, ævintýralegur ungur trúðfiskur, er óvænt fluttur frá Great Barrier Reef heimili sínu í fiskabúr tannlæknastofu. Þetta leiðir til þess að hún heldur ásamt Merlin og Nemó í leit að ættingjum sínum og liggur leiðin alla leið frá kóralrifinu þar sem þau eiga heima að ströndum Kaliforníu þar sem óvæntar uppgötvanir bíða.
Þetta er sagan af lítilli mörgæs, Mumble, sem býr á Suðurpólnum. Hann er með hræðilega söngrödd og ekkert innra lag en aftur á móti býr hann yfir miklum hæfileikum sem steppdansari. Móður hans, Norma Jean, finnst þetta voða sætt, en faðir hans, Memphis, segir þetta ekki mjög mörgæsalegt. Auk þess vita þau að án innra lags þá finnur Mumble kannski aldrei sanna ást. Hann og Gloria ná þó vel saman en hún er besti söngvarinn á svæðinu. Mumble er þó of ólíkur hinum mörgæsunum og er á endanum ýtt úr hópnum. Nú er hann í fyrsta skipti staddur að heiman og hittir keisaramörgæsir sem heillast af danshæfileikum hans.
Óskar er lítill fiskur af skjótvirkri sögn sem dreymir um að vera stór fiskur. En draumar hans setja hann í stöðnun vatn þegar stór lygi gerir hann að ólíklegri hetju. Í fyrstu gleypir hinn fiskurinn krók Óskars og það rignir frægð hans og örlög. Allt fer með fjöru í hag þar til ljóst verður að sagan sem hefur Óskar dreifst um að hann er mikill varnarmaður atollsins lekur alls staðar. Litli fiskurinn uppgötvar að það að vera hetja þýðir að líf hans er til sölu: lygi hans mun breyta honum í afla dagsins. Óskar verður að læra að sigla milli vötnanna tveggja til að finna þann sem er í hans hag aftur.
Megamind er yfirgengilega gáfuð geimvera sem var send í burtu frá heimaplánetu sinni þegar mikil hætta steðjaði að þar. Hann var þó ekki sá eini sem var sendur burt og endaði á jörðinni, því Metro Man lenti á sömu braut og hann. Metro Man verður fljótt mikil stjarna og elskuð ofurhetja á Jörðinni á meðan Megamind lendir utangarðs... Hinn bitri Megamind verður því illmenni en hver einasta tilraun hans til stórkostlegra illvirkja misheppnast þar sem Metro Man kemur ávallt til bjargar. Það breytist einn daginn þegar Megamind sigrar Metro Man óvænt í eitt skipti fyrir öll. Það sem þá gerist er að í stað sigurvímu finnst Megamind allur tilgangur í lífinu horfinn, og býr því til nýja ofurhetju úr einmana myndatökumanninum Hal.
