Aðalpersónan er áburðarflugvélin Dusty sem kann vel við tilveruna og starfið svo framarlega sem hann þarf ekki að fljúga of hátt því hann er svo lofthræddur. En Dusty hefur lengi dreymt um að taka þátt í árlegri flugkeppni þótt hann sé eiginlega ekki heldur smíðaður fyrir mikinn hraða. Aðalvandamálið er samt lofthræðslan og til að vinna bug á henni ákveður Dusty að leita sér aðstoðar sér fremri flugvéla.

Macross Delta is set in the year 2067, 8 years after the events of the latest Macross TV series, Macross Frontier.
