A causa dell'enorme potere distruttivo dell'Infinity, l'umanità rischia l'estinzione. Koji è quindi costretto, dopo 10 anni, a riprendere i comandi di Mazinga Z e ad affrontare ancora una volta il dilemma della sua vita "Diventare Dio o Demone". Oggi più che mai il futuro dell'umanità è nelle sue mani.

Un mondo virtuale in un corallo crosta (forma di vita informativa simile al corallo) creato da Eureka. Sono passati dieci anni da quando gli abitanti del mondo virtuale sono apparsi su questa terra con il crollo. Come risultato di questa "grande fusione", gli esseri umani del mondo virtuale si chiamano "Terra Verde" e gli esseri umani della vecchia Terra si chiamano "Terra Blu", e varie collisioni si ripeteranno sotto la superficie dell'acqua. Dewey Novak, un alto funzionario dell'Esercito della Terra Verde, si solleva con i suoi colleghi per proteggere la loro dignità e infine mette in atto un programma terroristico su larga scala.

Misato e il suo gruppo anti-Nerv Wille arrivano a Parigi, una città ormai rossa per effetto del Core. L'equipaggio dell'ammiraglia Wunder atterra su una torre di contenimento. Hanno solo 720 secondi per ripristinare la città. Quando appare un'orda di Nerv Eva, l'Unità Eva 8 potenziata di Mari deve intercettarla. Nel frattempo, Shinji, Asuka e Rei vagano per il Giappone...

Koji Sugimoto è un giovane meccanico, un giorno riceve il Madox-01, un mech sperimentale dell'esercito giapponese, finito li dopo un incidente di trasporto. Il giovane entra nel mech ma non è più in grado di uscire per un bug del sistema. Il tenente Kilgore, un soldato americano con un rancore personale contro Madox-01, vuole distruggere il robot ad ogni costo, anche sacrificando la vita di Koji.

La storia ruota attorno alla Principessa della Luna, Aurora, e i suoi tre compagni cyborg: Coog, Hakka e Gorgo, che devono raggiungere il Grande Pianeta e ripristinare l'Energia Galattica, che si sta affievolendo a causa dell'anzianità della sua regina: in conseguenza di questo tutte le forme di vita di tutti i pianeti stanno diventando aggressive e sanguinarie, e la civiltà sta regredendo.

Nell'anno 0218 UC la Federazione Terrestre collassa dopo il fallimento nel riprendere il controllo delle colonie spaziali ribelli. Si instaura così un nuovo ordine, in cui le colonie si proclamano insediamenti originari indipendenti, dividendosi in due schieramenti contrapposti per il controllo delle scarse risorse alimentari: da un lato il CONSENT (Congress of Settlement Nations), che eredita gran parte dell'architettura istituzionale della vecchia Federazione, e dall'altro la Settlement Freedom League. Al centro della contesa c'è l'insediamento neutrale di Side 8, Gaia, in possesso di una rivoluzionaria tecnologia agricola in grado di risolvere i gravi problemi di sostentamento alimentare della Terra e del Congresso. Nell'anno 0223 il conflitto, quindi, esplode con l'attacco del CONSENT per la conquista di Gaia, ma in gioco entra anche una misteriosa società segreta, gli Illuminati, il cui scopo è quello di preservare il delicato equilibrio del nuovo ordine.

L'incontro di un padre e di un figlio che non si vedono da anni, Gendo e Shinji Ikari, si trasforma nel teatro di una guerra spaventosa. La battaglia del genere umano contro le creature denominate "Angeli" giocata con armi di nuova concezione (gli Evangelion) e al contempo antichissime (l'intelletto dei tecnocrati che manipola i sentimenti dei soldati al fronte). Un finale ben diverso da quello che Shinji, nel giorno in cui fa ritorno a Neo Tokyo-3 per riabbracciare il genitore, aveva immaginato. Sconfitta la tentazione di scappare da se stesso, il "pilota della speranza" scopre un mondo nuovo, popolato da cognizioni apparentemente inconciliabili con l'individuo che era prima di approdare alla Nerv...

Il film inizia con il recupero nell'orbita terrestre di un sarcofago a forma di croce contenente l'unità Eva-01 nel quale Shinji Ikari è disciolto in seguito al Near Third Impact, effettuato da Asuka a bordo dell'Eva-02 e supportata da Mari a bordo della rispettiva unità Eva-08 per conto della Wille. Durante il recupero Asuka Langley viene attaccata dal sistema di difesa della Nerv che consiste in un angelo creato appositamente per difendere lo Eva-01, trovatasi in difficoltà chiede disperatamente l'intervento di Shinji causando inaspettatamente la momentanea attivazione dell'unità Eva-01 che elimina l'angelo salvandola.

Dopo la ribellione di Char, Hathaway Noa guida l’insurrezione contro la federazione terrestre, ma l’incontro con il nemico e una donna misteriosa cambia il suo destino...

Re Vega invia alla base lunare il comandante Barendos con la missione di distruggere una volta per tutte Goldrake (Grendizer) e conquistare la Terra, missione in cui Gandal e Hydargos (Blaki) hanno sistematicamente fallito. Barendos scende quindi sulla Terra con la sua astronave e con l'aiuto di un primo disco-mostro riesce a catturare Alcor (Koji Kabuto) ed il suo TFO. Distrutto il disco, sottopone il giovane pilota ad un condizionamento mentale grazie al quale riesce a scoprire l'esistenza di Mazinga Z e del Grande Mazinga, creati rispettivamente dal nonno e dal padre di Alcor, e da lui un tempo pilotati. I due potenti robot sono conservati come simboli di pace nel Museo dei Robot, dove Barendos, grazie alle informazioni carpite ad Alcor, riesce ad impadronirsi del Grande Mazinga per impiegarlo contro il sopraggiunto Goldrake. Si tratta dell'unico caso nella produzione di Go Nagai in cui Koji Kabuto guida il Grande Mazinga.

Continua la lotta serrata dell'umanità, rappresentata dai membri dell'Agenzia Speciale Nerv, alle misteriose creature chiamate "Angeli". A occuparsi del risveglio del Terzo Angelo è Mari, pilota assegnato all'unità provvisoria Evangelion 05. Asuka, invece, s'impegna a eliminare il Settimo Angelo a bordo del suo Eva-02. Dopo avere sconfitto l'Ottavo Angelo, il Nono Angelo è un nemico più infido, capace di insinuarsi nella nuovissima unità Evangelion 03 e impossessarsi del pilota assegnato al collaudo, ossia Asuka. Ha inizio il Third Impact.

Mazinger Z, known briefly as Tranzor Z in the United States, is a Japanese super robot manga series written and illustrated by Go Nagai.
