Marty McFly è stato catapultato per errore nel 1955, grazie alla macchina del tempo ideata dal suo amico scienziato Doc. Charlot, operaio in un grande complesso industriale, estenuato dal ritmo frenetico di lavoro, perde la ragione. Ricoverato in una casa di cura, viene dimesso qualche tempo dopo per finire però quasi subito in prigione, a causa di una manifestazione di operai nella quale si ritrova casualmente coinvolto.
