1909年、人種差別が色濃く残るジョージア州。幼くして出産経験がある少女セリーにとって心の支えは、美人で頭がいい妹ネティだった。そんなセリーは“ミスター”と呼ばれる男性に嫁ぐことに。奴隷も同然の毎日を過ごす中、家出をしたネティがセリーの家に訪ねてくるが、ミスターは彼女を追い払ってしまう。やがてミスターは昔の恋人で歌手のシャグを家に住まわせるように。セリーはシャグとの出会いを機に自立を意識しだす。

名サックス・プレイヤーの晩年を描いた感動作。デクスター・ゴードン、ハービー・ハンコックらの映画上での名セッションも刻まれたもので、ジャズ・ファンも注目の一作だ。

東北地方の山河高校の、落ちこぼれ学生だった友子ら13人の女子生徒は、夏休みの補習授業をサボるために、食中毒で入院した吹奏楽部のピンチヒッターに応募する。 唯一、食中毒を免れた気の弱い吹奏楽部員・拓雄の指導で、ビッグバンドジャズをはじめた友子らは、次第に演奏の楽しさに目覚め、ジャズにのめりこんでいく。しかし、吹奏楽部員が退院して復帰したため、あえなくお払い箱になってしまう。 2学期になった友子らは、演奏の楽しさが忘れられず、バンドを結成し、楽器を買うためにアルバイトに精を出して、失敗したり四苦八苦しながら、ビッグバンドジャズにのめりこんでいく。

＜モンマルトル編＞駐車できる場所を探し求めてモンマルトルの坂道を走り回った末、ようやく見つけたスペースにマイカーを滑り込ませた男性主人公は、すぐ近くで女性が行き倒れとなっているのと遭遇する。＜セーヌ河岸編＞2人の悪友とともにセーヌ河岸に陣取って、道行く女性たちの品定めをしていたフランソワ。偶然目の前で転んだアラブ系の若い女性を助け起こした彼は、彼女の美しさにたちまち魅せられる。その他、計18話。

ジャズに魅了され、テナーサックスを始めた仙台の高校生・宮本大（ミヤモトダイ）。 雨の日も風の日も、毎日たったひとりで何年も、河原でテナーサックスを吹き続けてきた。 卒業を機にジャズのため、上京。高校の同級生・玉田俊二（タマダシュンジ）のアパートに転がり込んだ大は、ある日訪れたライブハウスで同世代の凄腕ピアニスト・沢辺雪祈（サワベユキノリ）と出会う。 大は雪祈をバンドに誘う。はじめは本気で取り合わない雪祈だったが、聴く者を圧倒する大のサックスに胸を打たれ、二人はバンドを組むことに。そこへ大の熱さに感化されドラムを始めた玉田が加わり、三人は“JASS”を結成する。 楽譜も読めず、ジャズの知識もなかったが、ひたすらに、全力で吹いてきた大。幼い頃からジャズに全てを捧げてきた雪祈。初心者の玉田。 トリオの目標は、日本最高のジャズクラブ「So Blue」に出演し、日本のジャズシーンを変えること。 無謀と思われる目標に、必死に挑みながら成長していく “JASS”は、次第に注目を集めるようになる。「So Blue」でのライブ出演にも可能性が見え始め、目まぐるしい躍進がこのまま続いていくかに思えたが、ある思いもよらない出来事が起こり……
