西暦2154年。人類は惑星ポリフェマスの最大衛星パンドラに鉱物採掘基地を開いている。この星は熱帯雨林のような未開のジャングル覆われていて獰猛な動物と”ナヴィ”という先住種族が暮らしており、森の奥には地球のエネルギー問題解決の鍵となる希少鉱物の鉱床がある。この星の大気は人間に適さないので屋外活動にはマスクを着用する必要があり、ナヴィと意思疎通し交渉するために人間とナヴィの遺伝子を組み合わせて人間が作りあげた”アバター”が用いられた。

山岳地帯でのレスキューに失敗し、アライグマの命を救えなかったエースはチベットの僧院にこもり魂の救済を求めていた。だが、アフリカのある部族に伝わる聖なる白い大コウモリ“シカカ”が盗まれたと聞き、相棒の猿のスパイクと共にその救出に向かった。二つの部族の間で行われる結婚式の日までに“シカカ”が取り戻せないと、部族間で戦争が起きてしまうのだ……。

19世紀後半の米国。新任の会計士として東部から西部の町にやって来た青年ウィリアム。彼はひょんなことから花を売る女性セルとベッドをともにするが、そこへ彼女の元恋人チャーリーが現われる。チャーリーが撃った銃弾はセルの胸を貫通してウィリアムの心臓近くに当たり、一方、ウィリアムが撃った銃弾はチャーリーを射殺。ウィリアムは瀕死の状態で逃亡するはめとなり、知的な先住民ノーボディと珍道中を繰り広げていくが……。
