国王側近メンドーサの策略によって、魔女狩りが行われるヴァリアンテ国。人々を守ってきたはずの魔戒騎士と魔戒法師が次々と捕まり、処刑されていく。そんな中、アンナ・ルイスという女性の魔戒法師が火刑に処されながら子供を産み落す。そこへ夫にして魔戒騎士ゾロの称号を持つヘルマン・ルイスが現れ、その子を連れてこつぜんと姿を消してしまう。レオンと名付けられた子供は、黄金騎士の称号を受け継ぐ宿命を背負っており……。
ガロの称号を持つ黄金騎士・道外流牙（どうがいりゅうが）に、魔戒騎士の鎧が奪われる事件の事実究明の指令が下る。その事件に、かつての仲間だった蛇崩猛竜（じゃくずれたける）・楠神哀空吏（くすがみあぐり）が関与しているという。更に流牙たちの前に現れたのは、倒したはずの最凶ホラー・ジンガだった――
「黄金騎士ガロ・翔」となった道外流牙が、復活間近となった伝説の魔城・ラダンを封印する使命を受け、莉杏とともに新たな戦いへ突入していく―。謎の美男女ジンガ＆アミリ、ガルド、秋月ダイゴ、リュメ、Ｄ・リンゴといった魅力的なキャラクターたちが加わり、本作は『牙狼＜GARO＞-魔戒ノ花-』などの一話完結の物語から一転、『闇を照らす者』で取り入れられた連続劇のスタイルとなっており、それぞれに秘められた謎解きと、緊張感が全話に渡って継続する連続劇のスタイルとなっている。
ギャノンを倒し、全ての魔戒騎士とヒトを救った黄金騎士・牙狼の称号を持つ魔戒騎士冴島鋼牙。そのために支払った代償は大きく、彼は大いなる力・ガジャリと契約し、生きて帰れる保証の無い『約束の地』から『嘆きの牙』を持ち帰る命を受け、いつ終わるとも知れぬ旅に出た。（牙狼〈GARO〉 〜MAKAISENKI〜を参照） 約束の地に降り立った瞬間、気を失った彼は愛用の魔法衣と魔導輪ザルバ、そして牙狼剣をも失ってしまう。気を取り直し約束の地を進む鋼牙。そんな彼の前に、この世界を支配するジュダムに捧げられる貢物であるメルが現れ、成り行きで彼女を救った鋼牙はこの世界が『モノ』の世界であることを知る。嘆きの牙を探すうち、鋼牙は次第にこの世界の真実を知り、ジュダムの野望を阻止するために戦うことを決意する。

闇斬師（ヤミギリシ）―― 闇に堕ちた魔戒騎士や魔戒法師を討伐するもの。 闇斬師として闇に堕ちた魔戒騎士や魔戒法師を討伐する媚空の元に、元老院付きの魔戒法師・代知から、“魔戒法師のウサミが闇に堕ちているかどうか確かめよ”という指令を受ける。媚空は入心の術を用いてウサミの心の中＝精神世界へと突入する。しかしそこには、媚空の想像とは違った状況が発生していた。ウサミの精神世界に矛盾を感じた媚空は、その真相を確かめるべく、師匠である白海法師を訪ねる。だがこれが、深く暗い闇への入口であることを媚空はまだ知らなかった…。
最凶の魔獣七体が復活した。その名は使徒ホラー。魔戒騎士を束ねる番犬所は最強の騎士の証“ガロの称号”を持つ冴島鋼牙へ全七体殲滅の指令を下す。使徒ホラーを追う旅へ赴いた鋼牙は、ある港町に辿り着く。そこには魔戒法師のアカザ、弟子のシグト、そして烈花の姿があった。そして使徒ホラーの一体である魔鏡ホラー・カルマがCRIMEに潜んでいることを突き止める鋼牙。だが、CRIMEは魔戒法師にしか作れない結界によって守られていた。CRIMEに張り巡らされている予想だにしない罠により、鋼牙は過去最大の危機を迎える…。
守りし者として日々ホラー狩りをする魔戒騎士・冴島雷牙（さえじまらいが）。親から子へと受け継がれる黄金騎士であることに対する使命と重圧、そして父がいつまでも戻らないことに対する葛藤を心に抱えていた。一方、人の力になりたいと願うマユリは雷牙の元で日々花を育てる。静かな日常を送る2人であったが、ある満月の夜、2人の前に白き仮面の男・白孔＜しろく＞が現れる。「俺はお前のすべてを知っている」。不敵な笑みを浮かべる白孔の剣が雷牙を襲う。白孔の術によって夜の闇を彷徨うマユリ。マユリを追って雷牙は不思議な列車に乗りこむが、列車の汽笛が夜の闇を切り裂き、漆黒の闇から邪気が漂い始め…。
魔戒法師の里・閑岱で、死と隣り合わせの新たな技の特訓を重ねていた邪美（佐藤康恵）と烈花（松山メアリ）。そんなある日、ある使命を帯びた女魔戒法師・阿妓（瀧内公美）が里に残った邪美の前に現われ、力を貸してほしいと言う。一方、烈花が管轄へ戻る途中で笛を吹いていると、女魔戒法師・麻妓（大野未来）が近づき自分の笛を見せる。その笛は、偉大なる魔戒法師が作った桃幻の笛だった。

In a prosperous city named Russell City, an omen that threatens to shake its world begins to move within it. A man named Sword is the first to hear the first stirrings of the plot, and throws himself into a shadow war in order to expose it. His only clue is the key word "El Dorado." He meets Sophie, a woman searching for her missing older brother who has only left her with the same words: "El Dorado." With Sword having also lost his younger sister in the past, both are drawn together by the words, and work together to find out its meaning.
Mendosa, the chief adviser of the king of Valiante, begins a campaign to hunt down "witches," resulting in the deaths of many magical knights and their sorcerer assistants. Anna, a sorceress married to the knight Herman Lewis, gives birth to a son before her execution. Herman takes their child, Leon, and flees, raising him to be the heir of the legendary Golden Armor. By the time Leon grows up, Valiante is completely in the control of Mendosa, who drives out Prince Alfonso and his mother. Alphonso decides to seek out the man who inherited the Golden Armor to reclaim the throne and save his people.
Heian-kyō, capital and the center of elegant, aristocratic culture, is heavily guarded by a spiritual force field -- or so it seems. After hearing the rumor about a mysterious virtual reality headset which allows the wearer to participate in Versus Road game from his friend Hoshiai, Kuon finds himself acquired one of said headsets and enters the game along with 99 chosen players. There, the ring mistress of the game, Shuka, presents a golden suit of armor as the game's grand prize and explains that the first level's goal is to survive by any means necessary as their numbers are getting halved. To increase the challenge, two biomechanical demon beasts, Horrors, are released upon the players where the demons will devour those who failed to escape their grasp.
