ニューヨークのマンハッタン。結婚8年目のサラリーマン、テッド・クレイマーは忙しい毎日を送っているが、ある日突然、自立を決意した妻ジョアンナに家出されてしまう。テッドは仕方なく自力で7歳の息子ビリーの面倒をみるようになるが、仕事と子育ての両立は想像以上に厳しかった。やがてジョアンナは、ビリーの親権が自分にあると裁判所に訴え出るが、テッドは拒絶。クレイマー対クレイマーの裁判が法廷で争われることになる。

Dark comedy about the eccentric members of the Flowers family. Maurice and Deborah are barely together but yet to divorce. They live with Maurice's batty mother and their maladjusted twin children.
