1947年9月、プリンストン大学院の数学科に入学を果たしたジョン・ナッシュ。ひとり研究に没頭するナッシュは次第にクラスメートからも好奇の目で見られるようになる。しかし、ナッシュはついに画期的な「ゲーム理論」を発見する。やがてウィーラー研究所に採用されるが、米ソ冷戦下、彼の類い希な頭脳が暗号解読という極秘任務に利用され、次第に大きなプレッシャーに追いつめられていく…。
