The Space Shuttle returns to earth, but some of the equipment brought back on it begins to behave strangely. Scientists are unsure what is happening, and decide to take all necessary precautions.

Building her team from the ground up, she earns the respect of those she works with, though she's still mistaken for a secretary. But when NASA's Apollo 8 mission goes awry, it's up to her and her team's programming abilities to save the astronauts stranded in space.

Tragedy struck when the Space Shuttle Challenger disintegrated just 73 seconds into flight. Hours earlier, engineers argued to cancel the launch, amid fears of such a tragedy – so why did it go ahead?
