우주세기 0079. 스페이스 콜로니 사이드 3은 지온 공국이란 이름을 내걸고 지구연방에 대하여 독립전쟁을 일으킨다. 연방군이 비밀리에 개발 중인 모빌슈트를 노린 지온의 샤아 아즈나블은 스페이스 콜로니 사이드 7을 급습하고, 평범한 소년 아무로 레이는 아버지가 개발하고 있던 모빌슈트 건담에 우연히 탑승해 지온군을 격파한다. 건담의 위대한 전설이 이제 시작된다.
C.E.75, 전쟁은 여전히 계속되고 있다. 독립운동, 블루 코스모스의 침공… 사태를 진정시키기 위해 라크스를 초대 총재로 내세운 세계평화감시기구 컴퍼스가 창설되고, 키라와 부대원들은 컴퍼스의 일원이 되어 각지에서 벌어지는 전투에 참여한다. 그런 와중에 신흥국 파운데이션이 블루 코스모스의 본거지를 공격하는 합동 작전을 제안한다.

인류가 처음으로 경험한 대규모의 우주 전쟁은 지구 연방 정부와 지온 공국 간의 싸움이었다. 그 마지막 1년 동안은 인간형 기동 병기, 다시 말해 모빌수트를 실전에 활용하는 테스트 기간이라 불러도 좋을 정도였다. 그로부터 약 10년 후인 우주세기 0087년. 지구의 사람들과 스페이스 콜로니에 사는 사람들과의 대립은 지금도 계속되어, 사고 방식의 간극은 좀처럼 메워지지 못한 채라 할 수 있었다. 스페이스 콜로니 그린노아2에 사는 소년 카미유 비단은 연방군 군인들에 대한 반발심으로 신형 모빌수트 건담Ｍｋ-Ⅱ를 탈취하여, 반(反)지구연방 조직 에우고(A.E.U.G)에 가담한다. 건담 Ｍｋ-Ⅱ를 빼앗긴 연방군의 엘리트 조직 티탄즈는 카미유의 부모를 인질로 삼는 치졸한 작전을 강행하고, 그 결과 카미유는 눈 앞에서 양친을 잃게 되고 만다. 양친의 죽음을 슬퍼할 새도 없이 에우고의 작전에 참가하게 된 카미유는, 대기권을 돌파해 지구로 강하하여 한 남자를 만나는데, 그 사람은 바로 오래전 샤아의 라이벌이었던 전설적인 인물 아무로 레이였다...
지구 멸망의 위기에서 발동한 네크로시스 작전의 발안자였던 애드록 서스턴은 작전을 반대하여 구금되어 있다가 탈출, 인간형 코랄리언 유레카와 함께 인류를 구하기 위해 나선다. 작전의 오류를 스스로의 희생으로 막은 애드록 덕분에 인류는 멸망의 위기를 가까스로 넘기지만... 한편, 아버지를 잃은 랜턴은 국경도시 벨 포레스트에서 단조로운 나날을 보내고 있었다. 그러던 어느날, 랜턴 앞에 LFO라는 세계에서 가장 오래된 기체 니르밧슈가 내려오고 그 조종석에서 유레카라고 지칭하는 소녀가 모습을 드러낸다.
스페셜에디션 3화. 더블오 2시즌 후반부와 전함 솔레스탈 비잉 공략전 이후 정리과정까지 다루고 있다. 세컨드 시즌 후반부의 내용을 다루는 총집편으로써 작화의 추가보다는 연출의 변화가 두드러 진다. 주제가는 Mille Face의 〈Refrain〉. 특전으로는 00페스타에서 상영되었던 더블오 정식 PV와 더블오의 원화가인 코우가 윤의 일러스트로 꾸며진 논 크레딧 엔딩이 추가되었다.

U.C.0097. ‘라플라스의 상자’가 열린 지 1년. 뉴타입의 존재와 그 권리에 언급된 ‘우주세기 헌장’의 존재가 밝혀졌어도 세상의 틀은 크게 변화되지 않았다. 후에 ‘라플라스 사변’이라고 불리는 전란은 네오 지온의 잔당군 ‘소데츠키’가 와해되며 종결된 것으로 보였다. 그 최후의 전투에서 2기의 풀 사이코 프레임 사양의 모빌 수트가 인지를 초월한 힘을 보였다. 하얀 유니콘과 검은 사자. 2기의 위협은 봉인됨으로써 사람들의 의식에서 멀어져 갔고 기억에서 사라질 예정이었다. 하지만 2년 전에 행방불명 된 RX-0 유니콘 건담 3호기가 지구권에 다시 모습을 드러내기 시작했다. 금빛 ’불사조’, 그 이름은 페넥스.

Heavy Metal L-Gaim takes place in the Pentagona System, a solar system made up of five planets. Oldna Poseidal, the legendary emperor from the planet Gastogal leads his 24 Temple Knights from planet to planet until all have fallen under his control. His final victory is on the planet Mizum in 3975 when he defeats Kamon Walha V, ruler of the Yaman Clan. Kamon hides his heir, Kamon Myroad on the planet Mizum with the legendary white mecha, L-Gaim. Fifteen years later, now grown up and known as Daba Myroad, he leads a rebellion to free the planets of Pentagona from Poseidal's grasp.
