사막의 스핑크스에서 시저((Julius Caesar: 클라우드 레인즈 분)는 클레오파트라(Cleopatra: 비비안 리 분)를 만난다. 그녀는 지금은 자신의 동생에 의해서 쫓겨난 신세이지만 이집트의 여왕이라고 자신을 소개한다. "로마인들이 오면 잡아 먹힌다"라고 얘기하면서 스핑크스에 숨어 있지만 시저와 함께 사막에 있는 그녀의 성으로 돌아온다. 그런데 로마군이 성으로 쳐들어오고 클레오파트라는 두려워한다. 한편 시저와 로마인들은 알렉산드리아로 쳐들어간다. 쫓겨났던 클레오파트라도 그들과 함께 돌아온다. 시저는 이집트 국왕인 클레오파트라의 동생을 만나게 되는데 그가 클레오파트라의 남편이라는 사실을 알게 된다. 그리고 이집트에서는 왕이나 여왕은 자신의 형제와 결혼해야 하는 것이 법이라는 것도 알게 되는데.
