지브롤터에서 00섹션 요원들의 모의훈련 도중 004가 의문의 죽음을 당한다. 한편 소련 고관 코스코프가 체코에서 망명을 하려하는데 이에 007이 돕게 된다. 이 과정에서 코스코프를 사살하려는 첼리스트 여자 저격수를 처치하려하나 이상한 예감에 가벼운 상처만 입힌다. 영국 정보부는 코스코프에게서 소련의 푸쉬킨 장군이 영국과 미국의 스파이를 암살하는 스미어트 스피어넘 작전을 진행 중이라는 정보를 얻게 되지만 이 모든 것은 무기 판매상 휘태커와 손잡은 코스코프가 푸쉬킨을 제거하려는 게획이었는데...

소방대의 전임 의장은 암환자로 시간이 얼마 남지 않았다. 부하직원이었던 소방대원들이 그를 위해 무도회를 개최하는데 사람들은 점점 만취해 몸도 가누지 못하고 그로 인해 무도회장은 무질서의 아수라장이 되어간다. 소방대원들은 즉석에서 미인대회를 열기 위해 젊은 여자들을 모집하고 여자들은 자의반 타의반 테스트를 거쳐 미인대회에 참가하게 된다. 하지만 여자들은 난장판이 된 무도회장을 도망가듯 나가버리고 술취한 사람들이 무대로 올라가 왕관을 써보는 등 추태를 부린다. 바로 그 때, 무도회장 근처 주택에서 불이나고 무도회장의 사람들은 모두 불구경을 하기 위해 우르르 나가 버린다. 그리고 돌아온 사람들은 테이블에 있던 경품이 모조리 없어진 것을 발견하는데...

나치 점령 기간에 고문과 투옥 생활을 견뎌내었으나 1950년대 초 체코슬로바키아에서 여성으로서는 유일하게 정치적 재판의 사법 살인 희생자인 변호사이자 정치인 및 여성 권리 운동가였던 밀라다 호라코바에게 영감을 받아 제작된 영화이다. 영화는 도덕적 원칙을 중요시하는 한 여자의 1937년에서 1950년 사이에 관한 이야기이다. 이 사람은 도덕적 원칙을 너무 중요시하여 자기 자신과 가족들을 희생하면서까지 마음보다는 신념을 따랐다. 당시 체코슬로바키아 대통령은 알버트 아인슈타인, 윈스턴 처칠 그리고 엘리너 루스벨트와 같이 저명한 인물들로부터 자비를 베풀라는 요청을 받았지만 결국 밀라다 호라코바는 1950년 6월 27일에 처형되었고 자유와 민주주의를 위한 투쟁의 상징이 되었다.

Set in Czechoslovakia, the drama follows the lives of its characters against the backdrop of real historical events that shape their personal stories. To evoke period atmosphere, the series intersperses authentic clips from vintage Czechoslovak film newsreels, using their original commentaries or newly recorded historical voice-overs by Vladimír Fišer. A narrator, initially voiced by Vojtěch Kotek and later by Matěj Hádek, provides continuity and reflection, guiding viewers through changing times. Under the guidance of screenwriter Rudolf Merkner, each episode’s script weaves family and individual dramas into key moments of Czech and Slovak history: political shifts, cultural trends, and social transformations from the 1960s onward.

Based on real characters and events, this haunting drama focuses on the personal sacrifice of a Prague history student, Jan Palach, who set himself on fire in protest against the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1969. Dagmar Burešová, a young female lawyer, became part of his legacy by defending Jan's family in a trial against the communist government, a regime which tried to dishonour Palach’s sacrifice, a heroic action for the freedom of Czechoslovakia.
