The gradual opening-up of Romania during the 1960s continued with the reorganisation, in 1972, of the national strategy for culture and tourism promotion, and the establishment, as part of the new Council for Culture and Socialist Education (CCES), of a special commission in charge of the national strategy for incoming foreign tourists. It was in this context that the National Tourrism Office (ONT) strategically commissioned, via its media arm Publiturism, a series of films meant to persuade various communities from the Romanian diaspora to spend their holidays – and their money – “back home” in Romania.

“Wedding in Leresti: American couple gets married in the Orthodox tradition as local priest is appointed Texan sheriff” – this was the title of a feature published in the August 1973 issue of Tribuna României, a trilingual (French-English-German) Romanian publication targeted at foreign audiences. The unusual event was documented in a Sahia film commissioned by Publiturism, the media arm of Romania’s National Tourism Office, which credited Paul Anghel, the editor-in-chief of the periodical, as scriptwriter.

Dorin, a young man from the country, agrees for money, to take an exam for a Bachelor's Degree on behalf of someone else. He's got just one night to prepare and get in character, while facing social awkwardness and the absurdity of a flawed system.

Tells the story of mushroom pickers who, in the summer and autumn months head, to the southern Carpathians of Romania to begin their search. Far from being a leisure activity, for many of the pickers this is a main source of income which they and their families rely on to get by. In makeshift campsites, they spend months between dense coniferous forests and the Transalpina road, where they sell the gathered mushrooms to passing tourists or people on weekend breaks. The majority of their harvest is taken by intermediaries, who sell the mushrooms abroad for many times the price.

Paul (23) and Radu (53) are a couple in crisis. They are visited every day in their home by a small film crew. Together with the filmmaker, they go through a “deconstruction of memory” process, via procedures such as intimate video diaries, exercises inspired from family constellations, re-enactments of key memories and dreams, in an attempt to make sense of their explosive relationship.
