Fragments of memories from our grandparents take us back to a time when the world smelled of rivers, forests, and freshly fertilized fields. People were resilient, cows and horses were loyal companions, and children were full of curious freedom and inventive solutions, always ready to get up to mischief while working.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Žagar family in Notranjska region developed an international timber industry. The timber concern was inherited by young brothers Line and Franci. Line, impressed by the then Soviet idea of a just society, became a communist, while Franci tried to preserve the family fortune. World War II divided the world and also put the Žagar brothers on opposite sides. Eighty years later, Franci's daughters - sisters Monika and Barbara Žagar - explore in the film what happened to their uncle and father. The animated documentary about the Žagar family is a story about the tension between one's own identity and ideology.
The main hero, Martin Uhernik is involved in a crime, in the murder of his neighbour Jakob Luzar. The first instance court adjudicated his acquittal since there was lack of sufficient evidence of the murder. As the politicians and the local authorities interfere in the judgement, the prosecution requests a repeated trial before the Higher court. New evidence is found and the Higher court sentenced Uhernik to prison. His wife Ana is accused of taking part in the crime as well. During eight years of imprisonment the family falls apart: the wife passes away, the eight and twelve years old children are left to other people. The locals talk about a presumable killer and indicate a possibility of somebody else's involvement in the crime.

On the one side Vertigo Bird reveals completely personal attitude of Kovač toward the real ambience of his native town, while on the other the artistic articulations give his attitude broader connotations and develops it into a poetical structure of perception of the real world. Kovač places a group of dancers in this space of man’s activity, whose decline is a historical necessity.

Thanks to the steadfast persistence, irrepressible energy and at the same time peaceful ideology and a firm backbone, the heavy metal subculture succeeded to overcome the boundaries of the political system, time and space, thus becoming a part of culture and sociopolitical history of the nation. The authors of the film try to immortalize the spirit of this era of Slovenian music through testimonies of the main representatives of Slovenian heavy metal scene from those times, and offer it to future generations. At the same time, they want to pay these incredible musicians and their audience due respect which they rarely got during the time of their musical existence.
For a year, the director of the film follows the construction of a luxury hotel through his kitchen window. Fragments of the dissolution of his relationship sneak into the recorded material uninvited, shaking the very foundations of the film.
